Action Plan An Action Plan is a plan for making a teaching change that will enhance your students understanding of mathematics. Describe your teaching situation Tracie Merrill
Nespelem
5-8 Math/Math Specialist
I think...57 students 5-8, mostly if not all Native.
Describe your teaching change
Being more aware of my formative assessments..how and when I use them, and actually doing something with them. I feel that I had used them in the past, but was not aware that what I was doing had a name, and being more purposeful with my results.
Finding ways to incorporate the digital age into my class. Not just using the computers for typing and researching, but having my students blog, using games to reinforce and learn activities. This will give them yet another way to express their learning, a different way to learn, something else that can be fun and exciting will make the students enjoy coming to class more, be more engaged and more eager to dare I say learn?
Set Teaching Goals
1. I will use a formative assessment at least once a week.
2. For each unit I will find at least one digital medium for the students to use.
3. I will have my students blog once a week and I will check those blogs!
Describe Teaching Actions
I would like to be more aware of my students wants and desires to communicate in a natural way for them.
I will try to execute an exit task to check to see what they have learned--did they meet my learning goals for the day?
Assess Teaching Goals Each week I will check to see if I have done I purpopseful, meaningful, non-graded formative assessment
Each week I will check student blogs
Each unit make sure that there is technology incorporated somehow.
By doing these, I hope to be more aware of my students' learning and comprehension.
Timeline Starting the first week of school.
Since I haven't taught middle school or even at this school before, I am not sure how I will notice a difference in the grades, test scores and achievements, but am confident that this can only help them. Reflection
Write a reflection on the results of your action plan. What was difficult? What worked well? How did your students react to the changes you made? What was the impact on student learning?
